When Hatteras debuted the 45 EX at the Ft Lauderdale International boat show last fall, I don’t think anyone was prepared for it being such a success right out of the gate. By end of the show, 4 were sold and it was clear that more would be sold imminently.
Recently we began having conversations with a couple who had heard about the 45EX. They were current owners of a 35′ Cabo Express, and they were looking for a bit more room for when they were entertaining and cruising. After reviewing the specs and options, they were very impressed and were ready to move forward. We explained to them that Hatteras was already out to hull #7, and that we should move quickly to get them into the production queue. Just three weeks later we had their preliminary order. Remarkably two more Hatteras 45 EX’s had been sold, making them next in line with hull #10.
On May first, our customers and I met at the Hatteras Plant in New Bern, NC to go through the 45 line, tour the factory, and to meet with Hatteras’ in house interior design team. Every time I go to the factory, I am always completely impressed with their operation. We all met at 9 AM, went over build specs (they decided to add the Cat 360 Joystick control), and then it was off to Interior design. After that we went for a tour of the plant where they saw their hull actually being laid up in the mold (see pics) then it was off to see the 45’s in production ahead of theirs, and finally back to the sales center for lunch.
It was so much fun to see the excitement they had as we went around and they saw how much pride and craftsmanship goes into each and every boat they build
Today May 11th, Shane Grant, the head of 45 production sent me a few progress pictures – its starting to move right along!
