This article has confirmed what I personally have seen in the market over the past year. We are a Jupiter dealer and have seen the increase of center console boats sold in 2013. We are selling to the “new buyer” and the buyer who also has a larger boat, but what is interesting is the increasing number of center consoles we at Intrinsic are selling to buyers moving down.
When we originally started selling salt water center consoles years ago – the thought was to have a small line that our customers could move up from and into the larger brands we carry like Albemarle Boats and Ocean Yachts. It made sense, and it was the norm in the industry.
My how times have changed. Our customers with the bigger offshore boats are increasingly trading down. They want to get rid of the crew and fuel expense and get into something that they can run themselves, hose off and be done. Not to mention the huge fuel savings todays larger outboard’s are affording large center consoles.
The article touches on other segments, and not necessarily the reason for sales increases. Overall its nice to see the market improving in general!
